How To Get Traffic From Reddit Without Getting Blacklisted!

If you’re interested in doing wonders for your brand, or blog, you should already have accounts on most of the popular social Sharing sites.

If you’re going to Reddit, be warned that you should never spam your own posts, and expect to get a positive reaction, and you will defiantly get little to no interests shown in your topics.

The Reddit community frowns greatly on people who only submit their own content, they also hate anyone that does what they believe is “gaming the system” by using Reddit simply to get visitors to your blog.
There are ways around these strict guidelines, a way you can gain large numbers of users to your blog, but you need to be extremely careful when doing these things.
In this post I will go over some of the key things that are important to keep in mind when promoting your own blog posts.
1. Understanding Reddit
If you are not familiar with the Reddit Community, you need understand how it all works. Basically Reddit allows its users to submit anything they want in the form of a link, be it Webpages, Pictures, or whatever.
Most Redditors share the same or like opinions on a lot of the topics posted to the community, Reddit actually calls the large part of its user base ‘The Hive-mind  because they tend to share similar opinions.

The users on Reddit  generally frown upon submitting your own site, so take caution when making mention that the content is your own in your title.
Its best just to let people assume whatever they want about who created the content; your just need to make the title enticing to click on and genuinely interesting.
Which leads us to…

2. Post the article with an interesting title & picture
When you post your article, remember that in most cases, you only have the topic line of your posting to grab someone’s attention, and get them to click on your link, think about asking a question in your topic, this may get some to click, they may be interested in posting  a response to something you have asked.
Try and pick topics that are controversial, people like to ask questions and debate, they like to be involved in the topic, so this will help you get comments posted back as well as people forwarding your posting to friends and family.
Here are some of the posting Ideas I think do best on Reddit:

§  Personal stories and personal challenge stories,  people facing incredible odds seem to be the most popular
§  Educational sites do well and sites that deal with science, or technology
§  Photography is a big one, people love looking at pictures also art and comics
§  Politics & Religion grab a lot of readers.
§  Video games
§  Technology, Specifically Computers and Programming
§  Science & History
§  Music
§  Marijuana
§  Food & Fitness

These are typically the subjects with the most popular subreddits.
3. Don’t post in the wrong  subreddit!
A subreddit (referred to simply as a ‘ Reddit’) is the way Reddit organizes its content.
If you choose a subreddit that is overcrowded your article may get lost in all of the other postings, for example positing anything but an image in the images subreddit would be pointless as your posting would just be looked over.
But if your posting showcases some great new food recipe, posting in the r/Food subreddit would bring in users that are interested in Food rather than posting your post in the r/pics because the cheese cake looks great, you’ll get more responses from r/Food for the simple reason that its less crowded than r/pics
To check how many people have added the Reddit to their page, open a different tab, and after the Reddit address, type in /r/Reddit-name.To the right, you are going to see the number of people who have the Reddit on their front page.

The other reason for submitting to niche subreddit  and not the big ones is that you can make the top post more easily in these smaller subreddit. So, if you make it to the top of r/Joomla with your post, that is still 3000+ subscribers to the Joomla subreddit that could potentially click through (just make sure your post is excellent, and has to do with Joomla specifically!)

4. Be an active contributing member

As with any online community, you need to be a active contributor to the site, you cannot expect for gain respect from other user if when they look at your posting history all they see is a bunch of spam for your website, as with anything you need to spend time cultivating and caring for your reputation.
A handful of great and informative postings will go a lot farther for you then just spamming your blog or site, and believe me the community on Reddit knows the difference anc can spot a spammer a mile away.
In Conclusion: is Reddit worth it?
Reddit is certainly a lot tougher than Digg, if you want to be successful on reddit make sure your niche is unique and through, present your postings in a professional manner.
Keep in mind when posting to Reddit, you are dealing with one of the hardest crowds on the internet, expect to see a few nasty comments, and quite possibly you might fail the first couple times, just follow the advice I have given you here, and you many land on the front page of a bigger subreddit, when that happens you will never question the potential of Reddit, your site will see thousands and thousands of visitors from one posting.

Facebook Cuts Off Friend-Finding Access to Vine, Twitter’s New Video App

Facebook Cuts Off Friend-Finding Access to Vine, Twitter’s New Video App

Don't go and try to add your Facebook friends to your new VINE app, expecting to be able to share your videos, Facebook has shut off the API hose to Vine, is this because of Twitters relationship with Facebook?

That was fast!
Within hours of Twitter launching its Vine video-sharing application on Thursday, Facebook has cut off access to Vine’s “find people” feature, which
lets used to let Vine users find their Facebook friends using the Vine application.
What does that mean? It’s basically an annoyance, a hindrance on an easy way to connect with all your existing friends using the service. It would have been a good way to jump into a new product, rather than manually trying to find all of your friends using the app.
No comment from Twitter beyond the error message we’re seeing pop up when we try to use the Facebook friend finding feature in the app, and no immediate response from Facebook as of yet.
But the cutoff isn’t exactly surprising, given Instagram recently snipping Twitter cards integration, and Twitter cutting off access to Instagram’s “Find your Friends” feature. Welcome to the new, competitive landscape of social tech companies.
The loser in all of this? Sorry, user, but it’s you.

Vine: Twitter’s New App for Adding Six-Second Videos to Your Tweets

Tweeting Video!

They say a photo is worth a thousand words and a video is worth a lot more. By that math, six seconds of video should be worth a whole lot more than 140 characters of text or a Tweet.

And that seems to be the point of Vine, an app launched by Twitter today that allows you to add short video Clips to your tweets. The app, which as of now is  available only for the iPhone, is really simple to use and works a lot like Instagram. (Many have been calling it the Instagram of video.)

Sign in with your Twitter account or via email, hit the video camera button and press down on the viewfinder to record video. Release your finger and the recording stops, so you can easily move to record something else, but you only have six seconds of space (or tape).

Watch your video and then share it with others on the service. There are options to then share it on Twitter and Facebook too.

The Twitter tie-in is the big one though. When you tweet from Vine it embeds your looped video — or what looks like an animated GIF — right in your tweet.

Is Facebook Trying to Hijack Your Email Address?

F2ZQYKETFXZM
When you sign up for Facebook you did so with an email address so you could be notified of any action on your profile.  So far so good.  Now a while back Facebook launched @facebook.com email addresses, so people could use a Facebook email account.
The thing is, Facebook signed you up for an account even if you didn't want one.  All of which was harmless enough as you could safely ignore it.  Now though CNN are reporting that Facebook have changed the default email address in your profile to this @facebook.com email account rather than the one you signed up to Facebook with.
Facebook said that the change has been gradually rolled out over the last few weeks, but that many users were unaware of the change until coverage emerged about the changes this week.
The reaction has, to say the least, not been favorable, with many taking to blogs and Twitter to decry Facebook for this abuse of its position.  What's alarming is that Facebook seemingly did not anticipate this hostile reaction to the change.
"We basically defaulted to show your Facebook address as we rolled this out, just to keep it consistent for everyone," said Meredith Chin, Facebook's manager of product communications.
The change hasn't hit all accounts yet, but it will roll out eventually to all of Facebook's 900 million users, Chin confirmed.
It's worth adding of course that users can revert back to their actual email addresses from within their profile settings but if users start getting emails to an account they didn't know existed it could trigger quite a backlash against the company.
This is especially so as it joins a growing line of feature changes that Facebook have not communicated well to users.
When they launched their email service in 2010 it was tagged as a way to integrate conversations across multiple communication channels.  It seems that Facebook have some big lessons to learn on effective communication before trying to push changes onto the rest of us.

Facebook pulls location-tracking feature

Following a period of freak-out on the Internet on Monday, Facebook appears to have pulled a controversial feature that let the social network's users get a digital list of other Facebookers nearby.

When Facebook users logged on to the Find Friends Nearby site, they were supposed to be able to see friends and other Facebook users who were in close proximity.

Facebook users did not show up on those location-aware lists unless they intentionally logged into that site which was accessible on Monday at http://fb.com/ffn, but at this writing I found nothing there.

The site came to the public's attention on Sunday after news of the feature was leaked to the tech press, according to news reports.  A Facebook engineer who claimed to have designed the feature said in a message to the blog TechCrunch that it could be used to quickly look up and "friend" someone who you'd met in person.  "For me, the ideal use case for this product is the one where when you're out with a group of people whom you've recently met and want to stay in contact with," that developer, Ryan Patterson, wrote. "Facebook search might be effective, or sharing your vanity addresses or business cards, but this tool provides a really easy way to exchange contact information with multiple people with minimal friction."
Patterson wrote that he developed the app as part of a coding competition, or hackathon.

"Social discovery" apps like Highlight and Glancee, which Facebook recently purchased, already perform similar functions and have not been hit with the same backlash Facebook received. Facebook says it was "testing" the feature and that it had not become a formal part of the site, despite the fact that it was available online on Monday.

The company had not promoted the feature.

"We are constantly testing new features but have nothing more to share at this time," a company spokeswoman told CNN in an e-mail on Monday. The blog ReadWriteWeb dubbed the feature a "stalking app," and news of Find Friends Nearby received a cold reception on the Internet, where Twitter users and bloggers panned the idea -- saying Twitter-y things like "Hell to the naw," "Oh lawd!" and "BAD FACEBOOK!!" Furthermore, a company called Friendthem claimed Monday that Facebook had stolen its concept and was threatening the much-larger social network with a lawsuit.

"I was amazed on Sunday to read that Facebook is blatantly stealing our idea with what they are calling, 'Find Friends Nearby,'" Friendthem CEO Charles Sankowich said in a statement posted on VentureBeat and on other tech news sites.

What do you think of the idea of knowing which Facebook users are nearby? Could this be useful for finding new friends and looking up new contacts? Or does it cross a line in terms of privacy? Give us your opinions!

iSWiFTER Plays Flash Games on Your iPad

iSWiFTER Plays Flash Games on Your iPad

iPad: We've covered Flash video-capable browsers for iOS before, but iSWiFTER just updated with the express intent to let you play Flash games on your iPad.
A quick test with the free version (to play more than 30 minutes, you need to spend $5 to upgrade to the full version) showed a little bit of fuzziness in the graphics, but otherwise really smooth gameplay on the Flash sites. You're not going to get desktop performance, but for click-and-wait games that Facebook is known for, it's more than enough. And if you're dying to get your Flash games on your iPad—because it's more of a natural experience—$5 isn't too ridiculous a price.
The download is free so you can check it out before you buy.

G+ Hangouts - Great place to learn some programming.....

I was fortunate enough to enjoy a few hours programming with  Mohamed Mansour and some friends this evening, and thought I would share some tidbits and also a blog posting Mohamed posted to the Hangout this evening.  Here is a link to the programming project:

Framework for integrating small labs for Google+ into a single Chrome Extension

Google+ Labs for Chrome Extension

This Google Chrome extension will inject a link to your Google Plus profile so that you can share your post to Twitter or Facebook.

Here is the Blog Posting:

Software developer Mohamed Mansour has found one resourceful way to use the Hangouts video-conferencing feature on Google Plus. You might remember him from the Google Chrome extension, Facebook Friend Exporter, he developed that freed your Facebook contact data, letting you import it directly into Gmail or save it as a CSV file. Yes, he's the so-called "pesky hacker," err...software developer that Facebook has blocked.
Mansour's at it again, but this time he's teaching and sharing his passion for programming. He posted the following on his Google+ account:
"I thought it was a nice idea to show people on a Hangout how to develop Google Chrome Extensions, and it was really popular that I got many requests for it. From now on, I will be showing my development live on the Hangout in most times. So drop by and say hi, I will try and answer all software development questions on the Hangout."
If you're a programmer, make sure you follow him and join one of his next Hangouts. Maybe he'll inspire the next developer who gets their app or extension blocked by the notorious Facebook.

Report: MySpace to adopt Facebook Connect

Report: MySpace to adopt Facebook Connect

Ok so below is the article I was reading this morning, Google, and Facebook, battling for the Web identity Crown, Lovely, one of the largest company's on the internet is based on a Social Website?

I mean come on, dont we have better things to do with our time than to spend endless hours bull shitting with other people who are wasting there time?

Is this what our society has come to?  A bumch of fish rasing, farm plowing web heads, with nothing else better to do, what a legacy!

Peace. . . .
Report: MySpace to adopt Facebook Connect | The Web Services Report - CNET News

MySpace's rumored adoption of Facebook Connect could be happening in the near future--as soon as early 2010, Inside Facebook reports.

MySpace and Facebook have historically been rivals, with Facebook having ousted MySpace from their spot as the top social network, but their relations have been of a friendlier nature as of late. It appears as though MySpace has effectively given up on winning the social-networking war and is instead focusing on its already strong entertainment business, which includes the market leader, MySpace Music.

The extent of MySpace's Facebook Connect integration isn't yet known, but it is expected initially to leverage MySpace's media content, like music. This news comes right on the heels of Yahoo announcing a massive Facebook Connect implementation across all of its sites. Facebook and Google are currently battling it out for the Web identity crown. With Yahoo and MySpace out of the race, 2010 should prove to be an interesting year as Facebook and Google both try to carve out pieces of the market.

Secret Service Used Facebook To Learn Of Salahi Presidential Party Crashers

Oh so now our National Security is left in the hands of facebook??  What the HELL!!!  You've gotta be kidding me!

Washington D.C. has been abuzz about the couple who crashed a
Presidential party and proceeded to post photos of themselves on
Facebook. Yesterday the
secret service confirmed
that they had used Facebook after the event to find out that the couple
was not permitted to attend. The photos of the Salahis with President
Biden tipped off the Secret Service, which has come under fire in
recent days.
